Selection

Automated Selection is when certain documents require either an extra or a different insert to be placed into the pack.

Promail can use either a scanner or camera to read an area of the sheet. Usually this area would be either a barcode or OMR mark, but could also be a set of characters (often numbers) or a specialist 2D mark.

The information on this mark is specific to each sheet of paper and it is interpreted by the camera or scanner to ensure that the complete pack of documents is inserted into the envelope or polybag.

Promail have several ways in which document selection can be achieved.

We can supply a machine such as the Kalmar KC45 Unimailer with a sheet-feed channel. The channel uses a camera or scanner to read the mark and select the required extra or replacement piece from the inserting station(s).

We can also supply rebuilt equipment, such as Bell & Howell inserters with a custom-made channel or a reader built into an insert station. The reader will select the remaining required inserts.

The newer generation Kalmar KC4 and KC5 swing-arm inserters can be custom-fitted with either a sheet-feed channel or a reader within an insert station. The reader will select the remaining required inserts.

Other alternatives include using a specialist Streamfeeder with either an inserting machine or a polywrapper and sometimes this can be custom fit onto your existing machinery.
